Join us at Maverick County Lake for Ciclovia on Saturday, 8/3/2013. The county commissioners are scheduled to kick off a walk at 10am, followed by Zumba and many fun activities for the kiddos. Bring your bikes, put on your running shoes and get ready for fun, games and lots more. See you there!

After Flooding Emergency Response: Tetanus Vaccine

CITY OF EAGLE PASS AND MAVERICK COUNTY Emergency Operations Center announces that the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Region 8 will be giving tetanus vaccine at two clinics to specific groups of people who are affected by the flood.

WHEN?                               Thursday, June 20 Noon to 7:00 PM

                              AND

                              Friday, June 21 Noon to 6:00 PM

WHERE?              2 Locations

·         Eagle Pass Junior High School   

                              1750 N. Bibb St.

                              AND

·         Seco Mines Community Center

                              2989 Sanchez St.

WHO SHOULD RECEIVE THIS VACCINE?

·         People who received the tetanus vaccination 5 years ago or more

·         Adults age 18 years and above

·         People who were first responders for the flooding (Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS) and public works crews handling debris

·         People who were in the flood waters and had open wounds (punctures, cuts, scratches)

·         People who have open wounds (punctures, cuts, scratches) from working on property damage

WHO SHOULD NOT RECEIVE THIS VACCINE?

·         People who received this vaccination within the last five years are fully covered

·         Children under age 18 years age

               

El Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias de la CIUDAD DE EAGLE PASS Y EL CONDADO DE MAVERICK anunció que el Departamento de Salud de Texas (DSHS por sus siglas en inglés) de la Región 8 estará dando la vacuna contra el tétanos (trismo) en dos clínicas a grupos específicos de personas que se ven afectadas por la inundación.

¿QUIÉN DEBE RECIBIR ESTA VACUNA?

·         Las personas que recibieron la vacuna contra el tétanos hace 5 años o más

·         Los adultos de 18 años y mayores

·         Las personas que fueron los primeros en responder a la inundación (Agentes de la Ley, Fuego, Servicios Médicos de Emergencia (EMS, por sus siglas en inglés)) y trabajadores de obras públicas en contacto a residuos

·         Las personas que se encontraron en aguas de la inundación y tenían heridas abiertas (pinchazos, cortes, rasguños)

·         Las personas que tienen heridas abiertas (pinchazos, cortes, rasguños) debido a trabajar en propiedad dañada

¿QUIEN NO DEBE RECIBIR ESTA VACUNA?

·         Las personas que recibieron esta vacuna dentro de los últimos cinco años están totalmente cubiertos

·         Los niños menores de 18 años de edad

June 1st Ciclovia

This month the HOPE-K THC is partnering with multiple businesses including H-E-B and Wal-Mart. The H-E-Buddy will be joining us at the lake for fun, games, health screenings, physical activity and lots more. Wal-Mart will be hosting the "Take a Kid Fishing" event and will also be providing fun prizes for the kiddos.  So get ready to enjoy a fun filled day out at Maverick County Lake. Remember the first Saturday of every month the lake is closed to vehicles but is open for everyone to enjoy all types of physical activity. So bring your bikes or if you must drive simply park at the VFW. Thanks to our veterans for allowing us the use of their parking area. See you there!

Ciclovia Family Fit Day

The HOPE-K Trinational Health Council successfully carried out another Ciclovia event on Saturday, May 4th at Maverick County Lake.  Ciclovia events encourage physical activity through walking, running, cycling, Zumba, sports and other types of recreational activity.  Ciclovia events would not be possible without the collaboration of community agencies.  Volunteering their services this past Saturday were the Boy's and Girl's Club, Zumbatomics from A Tu Salud Fitness, Letty's Dance Studio, Sul Ross State University Student Council members, Maverick Ambulance EMS, Texas DSHS, the Mexican Consulate-Ventanillas de Salud, Molina Healthcare, CC Winn High School National Honor Society, Eagle Pass 411 and PonyTail for Love volunteers.

The HOPE-K Tri-National Health Council invites you to join us for a fun family day at Maverick County Lake.  Check out all the great activities planned:

8:00am – 4:00pm (lake is closed to vehicular traffic/el lago estará cerrado al tráfico vehicular)	All day/ Todo el día:  Walk, bike, skate, run or play with family (INDIVIDUALLY) /Camina, pasea en bicicleta, patina, corre o juega con tu familia (all levels/todos niveles) (INDIVIDUALMENTE)

WellnessWorks at Benavides Elementary

Starting the day energized after a Zumba routine, students from Benavides Elementary in Eagle Pass, TX are set for a day at school. Thanks to Letty (Letty's Dance Studio), Monica from TX Ag Extension Office, DSHS staff and community health workers from the Mexican Consulate VDS for volunteering their time to teach students about nutrition and physical activity. Thanks to these great volunteers 5th and 6th grade students are learning about MyPlate, reading food labels and other essential lessons that will help them adopt healthy habits early in life.

Yesterday's HOPE-K ciclovia was a great success.  Thanks to all our community partners for supporting us at this event.  And thanks to the community for coming out, enjoying the day and taking part in fun physical activities with us and more importantly with your families.

Monthly Ciclovias at the Lake/Ciclovias Mensuales en el Lago

Come and join us for a day of fun at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, TX. Ciclovias are held every first Saturday of the month.  During this festival the lake is closed to vehicles for  your enjoyment and recreational activity. 

On Saturday, February 2, 2013 we will meet at 8am at the Pavilion for walking and running....so put on your running shoes and let's get this year started off right!

Other fun events start at 12:30pm and will include soccer, football, walking and Zumba. Don't miss out, come be a part of this exciting event!

Venga y únase a un día de diversión en el Lago del Condado de Maverick en Eagle Pass, TX. Ciclovías se celebran cada primer sábado del mes. Durante este festival el lago está cerrado a vehículos y disponible para que usted lo disfrute en cualquier tipo de actividad recreativa.

 El Sábado, 02 de febrero del 2013 nos reuniremos a las 8 am en el Pabellón para caminar y correr .... así que póngase sus zapatos de correr y demos un buen comienzo a este nuevo año. 
  
Otros eventos divertidos a partir de las 12:30 incluirán fútbol americano, fútbol, caminata y Zumba. No se lo pierda y sea parte de este emocionante evento.
